Solenoid And Its Polarity

Solenoid:
"When an insulated wire is wounded number of times over a cylindrical coil then the coiled  cylindrical coil is known  as a Solenoid."

➡When current is passed through the insulated wire which is wounded over cylindrical coil then a magnetic field is produced in solenoid which resembles as a bar magnet.

➡The magnetic lines of force which are formed will be passing into the solenoid, now when any soft iron is kept inside the solenoid it act as a magnet which is called as Electromagnet.

Polarity Of Solenoid:

➡Polarity of solenoid which are formed due to magnetic field of lines are determined by two rules,

1. Helix Rule

2. End Rule

1. Helix rule:

➡When a solenoid is gripped in the  right hand, the fingers pointing downwards shows the direction of the current and the thumb which is outstretched will shows the north pole direction of solenoid.

➡Helix rule is also called as Right Hand Gripping Rule.

2. End Rule:

➡If at one end of the solenoid, current is flowing in clockwise direction then that end will act as South Pole of the solenoid.

➡If the current flowing at the end of the solenoid is anticlockwise direction then that end will act as north pole.
