Symbols Of Elements- How Orginated?

       We have over 115 elements discovered so far. Before the symbols for the elements were discovered, it was difficult for the scientists to write entire name of the element when writing the chemical reaction. To reduce the time and for easy going, scientists have discovered the short cut for the elements to write, which is called as "SYMBOLS"

It was first John Dalton who tried to use the symbols for elements. He tried to give symbols to certain elements like Hydrogen, Carbon, and Copper.....etc for early 36 elements in the year 1803.

 Dalton used pictures as the symbols for the elements. But John Berzilius suggested that the symbols of elements must be made by taking the initial letter of an element from its name in English written capital letter.

The other problem came was some elements name starts with same alphabet like Carbon, Chromium, Chlorine... Etc. 

So they took one or two letters of elements of its name in English in which first letter should be always capital letter (upper case) and the second letter should be always small letter (lower case).
